Users of the third-party Rif app, which is also known as Fun is Reddit, have been encountering a “forbidden error” message when attempting to use the app due to upcoming changes in Reddit’s API.
Steve Huffman, the CEO of Reddit, stated, “In order for Reddit to become a financially independent company, it is necessary for us to discontinue providing financial support to commercial organizations that rely on extensive data usage.” He made this statement while addressing the ongoing criticism regarding the modifications made to their API in June.
Users have been encountering the error message when they attempt to share content on Twitter from the Reddit app called Rif (formerly known as Reddit is Fun).
One tweeted: “‘man i wonder what’s happening on reddit’ *opens reddit is fun* Error: couldn’t load reddit information.”.
Another person stated: “Reddit is Fun is displaying error messages to me, I assumed I would enjoy the remainder of the evening.”
“I genuinely went like ‘oh well, darn. That’s it’ when I noticed this mistake.” Stated one user and others appeared to anticipate the error notifications.
Why did Reddit is fun shut down?
Earlier this year, Reddit announced changes that would either shut down third-party apps or implement subscription models meant to collect fees.
