Here’s why the show Dark was canceled and what potentially could happen when it leaves after the airing finale on CW in early September, shortly after being added to Netflix.
The series begins as a crime drama where a blind woman sees that Friend A is helping a killer. Over the course of three seasons, the show has dramatically evolved.

The television show In The Dark was created by Corinne Kingsbury and starred Perry Mattfeld, Rich Sommer, Brooke Markham, and Casey Deidrick.
The show arrived on Netflix around the week following September 13th, 2022, which is typically when new seasons air their season finales. The show had a deal with CW between 2013 and 2019, and now it has come to Netflix in the United States under a sweeping deal.
The complete series, comprising of 52 episodes, is now accessible on Netflix US for streaming.
The show, which did not get picked up for distribution and is not available on most international streaming platforms, is worth mentioning. Netflix did not acquire the rights to air the show in countries other than the United States.
In The Dark was canceled by The CW
Many shows, including Riverdale, The Flash, and Dynasty, were either given premature season finale orders or canceled. One of these shows was Dark. Unfortunately, the CW pulled the plug on several shows over the past year.
The announcement comes as the network shifts its programming and adjusts due to its new ownership.
Season 4, although concluding in a manner that establishes potential for more seasons, is ultimately the last season, indicating that no discussions arose regarding selling the show to another network.
In a conversation with Nerds and Beyond, Perry Mattfeld talked about the specifics of what the possible fifth season would have encompassed for Murphy.
“I think our season 5 would have been interesting to see where Murphy does go. Does she care if she gets caught? Is she just gonna run away with Felix and see how long they can hide and kind of, you know, would we have seen her in a completely different place, would she just be alone? I don’t know. There’s so many ways that could have gone. I think I can say, this is just my opinion, but that most of our fans will feel happy and justified and proud of Murphy for getting some revenge after everything she’s had to go through over the last four seasons.”

In The Dark will continue to be available on Netflix for the foreseeable future, just like all other shows that were brought to Netflix through The CW agreement, even after 5 years.
Our current information indicates that the expiration date for the Netflix show In The Dark is December 10th, 2027.
Given that season 4 was added, which marks exactly five years, it is possible for the show to depart as early as September 13th, 2027.
