When it comes to competitive decks, Snap Marvel is an incredibly balanced game with a ton of variety. There will inevitably be a rise in top decklists and certain cards, but satisfied enthusiasts move even and reveal, destroy, and discard to keep the variety enough.
The recent changes have led to adjustments in power, moving towards a more tailored approach, rather than opposing effects. The developers at Dinner Second are never afraid to make major nerfs in order to keep it more balanced. It has been mentioned that there are a few select cards in Marvel Snap that will periodically dominate the metagame.
Unless something is truly broken and well in the case, Dinner Second developers will release these major patches more frequently on a monthly basis, which will also include bug fixes and additional updates to the traditional game. Additionally, the broken issue will be fixed in a weekly OTA update called Snap Marvel.

BALANCE UPDATES.
We are aware that the changes made in the upcoming patch, which will be released in advance of Evolutionary’s High, may affect the metagame related to that card. Therefore, we will use OTAs to address those changes. We have these changes in mind and will implement them well in advance of the release. We know that this patch is coming after a couple of fun weeks with Evolutionary’s High, so we will make some smaller adjustments to our lesser-played cards to make the game more enjoyable. Additionally, we have a major change planned for this week.
CARD UPDATES.
– Galactus:.
Galactus is a card that we’ve kept close since its release. His ability warps the game by allowing players to claim two locations, changing the goal for both players and “countering” the cards around him. We frequently move the thresholds to determine the rate of play and the competitive diversity, as the game gets reduced by Galactus’s state. However, if we waited, the metagame could sort itself out because Galactus is inherently counterable. Many players don’t even bother trying to solve these problems, as beating him is not worth it. Galactus’s popularity has only grown, and his winrate has increased.
The original design for Galactus is difficult to rebalance because it essentially has one value, so we can adjust its Power. However, that doesn’t mean Galactus always loses priority in counters post-Galactus making. Enchantress or Shang-Chi, like counters, may let you beat these cards more naturally, especially Professor X. Either way, it’s still all about the counters. We considered making the first 7-Cost card that was just less fun and weaker with the same issues, but also redesigns for Galactus. We didn’t find anything that cleared our bar, which is very high.
Ultimately, we decided to make a Power that is functional in a way that leads us to winning, in addition to the restriction imposed by Galactus. This contest allows players to challenge themselves within the core of SNAP, using Power to win and caring about the fun of the game. It can be frustrating for players to rely exclusively on counters to control their appearance. Every deck should have the ability to muster Power 7, but we expect Nimrod. or Hobgoblin to become stronger by playing them after 6 turns. Although the popular Archetypes of Galactus may become stronger, we will find the healthiest spot and further tune him through OTA. It’s also worth noting that if this change proves to be too little or too much, we have the ability to adjust it.
Maria Hill:
We are granting Maria Hill the capability to roll a 2-Cost card primarily in order to enhance her thematic similarity to Agent Coulson. We anticipate that this will result in a minor improvement, as there will be instances where you receive a superior card from her, and in those situations, your Quinjet will also offer a discount half of the time. While this will not be a significant game-changer, it will certainly make the card more enjoyable.
– Dazzler.:.
She may have a home alongside Brood with Surfer Silver and Patriot in Ultron or other shells. In addition, to change up the competition, we shifted her rate to 3-Cost and also decided to fill locations that give her more incremental boosts. We never really found a competing home against many of our strongest 4-Cost cards and old Dazzler.’s ability didn’t give enough of a boost to reflect the level of investment of filling your board demands.

BALANCE UPDATES.
We will soon have more news for you on the future balance changes. This week is relatively light in terms of recent excitement, with a diverse metagame that ended April featuring a healthy win rate and cube rates, but only a small number of outliers in popularity. Today’s focus is mostly on a couple of card reworks.
CARD UPDATES.
Kitty Pryde – Launched with fresh appearance!
As previously announced, today all active accounts will be rewarded with Series 5 and Kitty Pryde, who will make her return to the game this week with her latest skill.
Crystal.
Crystal. has been one of a handful of cards seeing incredibly low play and win rates for quite some time now, and an obvious buff candidate. We debated maintaining the direction of the current effect by removing the middle restriction, increasing the cards drawn, etc. But the tricky thing is that we don’t want an effect like Crystal.’s to be strong. SNAP decks are only 12 cards and we don’t want those cards to play out the same every time, so we’re very careful about letting players draw cards. This rework aimed to make a simple, appropriate Crystal. that could be fun alongside a variety of cards.
Wave.
Wave.’s cost reduction occurs after other effects that reduce card costs. In addition to a text update that clarifies when Wave.’s effect begins, we’ve also made a rather large adjustment “under the hood.” Wave. will now begin to apply after effects that reduce card costs, rather than before. That means She-Hulk, Death., etc. will always cost 4 while Wave. is in effect. We don’t take lightly that this change kills a few decks, but Wave. has been far too constraining on our ability to use cost reduction as a synergy reward in future designs. Leaning on Wave. is just always better than dedicating your deck to the actual synergy–we’ve seen that with Death. since both cards went live, and we’ll continue seeing it without this action.
Death.
As Death.’s current performance is essentially dependent on Wave. and Galactus, we wanted to improve her playability in other decks now that the interaction with Wave. has changed. This may not be enough, and if we see Death. take a huge dive we’ll come back and look at how these values can be adjusted further to ensure Death. remains a meaningful card for dedicated Destroy decks.
Snow Queen (Text-only change
The function of the card is currently unclear, but in the future, we may pursue a type of shorthand by copying a card into your hand. This text revision is simply an attempt to resolve some ongoing confusion about how it interacts with cards like Bite Widow’s and what exactly Queen White does.

Every 8 hours, the category rotates and showcases a card that is not in your possession from all the currently accessible Series 4/5 cards. BALANCE UPDATES.
In the wake of our last balance change, we saw the metagame settle into a much healthier shape than it had been before. However, we were too shallow with our adjustments to the Shuri.-Taskmaster decks, and Lockjaw-Leech shells (both with and without Thanos) have remained solid contenders. Today’s changes aim to push both of those decks off their clear top spots. Outside of Shuri.-Taskmaster, the metagame is looking healthy on our internal metrics.
CARD UPDATES.
– Shuri..:
[Previous] 4/2 – On Reveal: Increase the Power of the next card you play by two times.
[Update] 4/2 – On Reveal: If you play your subsequent card in this location, multiply its Power by two.
Developer Comments: We considered a number of changes to Shuri., but they all tended to ruin her current decks. Some even theoretically risked making a new monster with different parts–that’s not a great risk to run when balancing a problematically strong card. The change we’re making today may seem small and subtle, but we expect it to be impactful and retain the same flow of play for her existing decks, which is a consistent goal in our balance philosophy. This nerf removes Cosmo’s protective capacity for her target, makes single-card answers like Valkyrie easier to aim, and indirectly buffs lane control elements like Professor X. We’re taking a risk here in that this nerf could leave Shuri. still a strength outlier–if so, we’ll react quickly.
– Leech:.
[Updated] 5/3 – On Reveal: Strip away the capabilities from all cards in your adversary’s grasp.
[Update] 5/3 – When turn 6 begins, eliminate all abilities from cards in your opponent’s hand.
The metagame of the foundational piece is to fulfill a necessary role without ever changing, which is important in any setup without any unique angle. Decks in the event should have combinations and cards that are designed to counter some powerful endgame cards, hence the decision to “remove Leech from the equation early on. It has been a constant obstacle in the design and balance of decks, as we have often tried to weaken the stronger cards in the past to make Leech play a deck and/or Power against strong finishers. Usually, when frustration occurs, it is because Leech has been heavily played as a card, but our goal has never been to heavily rely on Leech.
– Lockjaw:.
[Revised] 3/2 – Once you play a card at this location, exchange it with a card from your deck.
[Update] 3/2 – Once you play a card at this location, exchange it with a card in your deck. (Once per turn).
Decks such as Thanos, which coincidentally utilize numerous inexpensive cards, will discover Lockjaw to be less powerful and easier to play against. Restricting Lockjaw to only one exchange per turn compels the player to develop their board without allowing them to sprint ahead or surprise their opponent later in the game. We are modifying the most dominant and vexing utilization of Lockjaw, which involves activating him multiple times in a turn, often with a snap as well, since we believe it is. As we introduce new cards, there will also be new and enhanced methods to bypass the risks associated with Lockjaw. Having such a wide range of possibilities in multiple competitive decks is quite extraordinary! However, each activation of this delightful creature essentially draws a card and randomly “generates” up to 6 Energy. Lockjaw is an enjoyable and thrilling card, but.
America Chavez:
[Previous] 6/9 – You consistently acquire this card on turn 6, and not prior.
[Update] 6/9 – Begins at the bottom of your deck. Retrieve this card on turn 6.
In general, we don’t expect much impact on the overall functionality of Chavez’s America with this update. However, it does restrict our ability to print cards that you can interact with on the top of your deck. So far, Yondu’s role outside of the game has been largely unimportant. This means that it’s more likely for her to be the top card of your deck over the course of the game. If you were previously concerned about drawing the next card in your deck, you would just draw your next card instead of Chavez America.
– Jubilee:.
[Updated] 4/1 – On Reveal: Include a card from your deck to this specific location.
[Update] 4/1 – During the revelation phase, add the highest card from your deck to this specific location.
Some of our players may recall a period when Jubilee possessed this capability! During that time, Jubilee would frequently be a 4/10 as she consistently summoned America Chavez. At that time, we made the decision to modify Jubilee’s effect rather than America Chavez’s, as it was a simpler change to convey. However, we are planning to create cards in the future that interact with the top of your deck, so we are reintroducing this design as well! As of now, we anticipate that this update will have minimal impact on Jubilee.
– Leader:.
[Updated] 6/7 – On Reveal: Duplicate all cards your adversary played to the position directly beside this, but on your side.
[Update] 6/2 – During Reveal: Duplicate the opponent’s card(s) with the greatest Power played during this turn, but on your own side.
Our previous adjustment to Leader’s power was undeniably too severe, and we are disappointed that it became a prime example of how detrimental a nerf can be. Our approach to balancing is to maintain as much gameplay as possible while reducing card strength, but we did not achieve this in the past. With this modification, our goal is to restore Leader’s effectiveness to a suitable level for a 6-Cost card, while avoiding the overpowering impact of his original version. We are currently being cautious with his Power due to the fact that certain strategies that were previously effective against the original Leader, such as playing weaker cards before a strong one, are no longer applicable.

Marvel Snap July 12 Patch Notes
PATCH HIGHLIGHT.
GENERAL UPDATES.
SOUND & CREAT
New visual and auditory effects for the subsequent cards:
BALANCE UPDATES.
At this time, we don’t have many urgent matters to address in the metagame except for High Evolutionary’s over-performance and excessive popularity. Many of these modifications aim to enhance clarity and establish clear expectations regarding cards with unconventional interactions.
CARD UPDATES.
High Evolutionary.
The Evolutionary High deck has proven itself strong enough to support three distinct decks within the metagame. However, even though we think there is room to improve diversity at the top of the metagame, our metrics do not explicitly indicate any problematic cards in Ranked play. Some cards are better than others, but none of the three explicitly stated cards are better than the rest.
Developer’s note: Wasp is not only simple and pretty, but she also impacts the meaning of these decks significantly. Her weakening is more impactful than the overall winning of other cards, especially when playing with Jane Foster and Lockjaw. In addition, she provides a bonus of +4 when rolling Lockjaw two times, making her fantastic in conjunction with them.
Developer Note: In the same way, Hulk is present in every shell of the High Evolutionary that we have been monitoring, and Hulk is the strongest there is, even if there is a regrettable glitch that doesn’t consider the last turn of the game, in case you happen to have an extra Energy. This modification will address that problem and also decrease the average Power of Hulk, particularly in Lockjaw shells where players frequently collect Energy without ever drawing Hulk.
In the upcoming weeks, we will persist in closely monitoring High Evolutionary, and we acknowledge that these modifications might not be as severe as certain players anticipated.
Gambit.
If they decide to disrupt the board, the Wong combination decks will experience some setbacks and may need to consider incorporating cards like Apocalypse or Swarm. By granting him +2 Power, we are compensating for this drawback as it is a nerf, and Gambit is not a frequently used card. How could it be effective if you have no cards to discard? Gambit’s innovative concept revolves around “throwing” cards at your adversaries. Arnim Zola must eliminate his intended objective in order to generate duplicates of it. The fact that Gambit’s effect destroys cards while Arnim Zola must destroy his target has caused confusion among players for quite some time. Developer’s Note: Including Gambit in more conventional decks could potentially be an intriguing alternative.
Mystique.
First, let’s try to make some adjustments to improve the quality of life. However, this often doesn’t work out as planned. Just like Rogue, she has the ability to absorb and reveal without triggering it. When Mystique takes on the form of someone like Rogue, she also gains the ability to absorb and reveal. Similarly, Electro and Stone Soul have ongoing abilities that allow them to copy the abilities of others, including Man Absorbing. Whenever a card with the ability to reveal is played, both Electro and Stone Soul immediately copy the ability. This change in the game allows for better intuitive understanding of player outcomes. Note that this is just like a developer copying the whole text of a box implicitly to change it.Output: Initially, let’s attempt to make some alterations to enhance the quality of life. However, this often does not succeed. Just as Rogue does, she possesses the capacity to assimilate and disclose without activating it. When Mystique assumes the guise of characters like Rogue, she also acquires the capability to assimilate and disclose. Similarly, Electro and Stone Soul possess ongoing abilities to replicate the abilities of others, including Man Absorbing. Every time a card with the ability to disclose is played, both Electro and Stone Soul promptly replicate the ability. This modification in the game facilitates a more comprehensive understanding of player outcomes. It is important to note that this is analogous to a developer implicitly replicating the entire text of a box in order to modify it.
Nakia.
Nakia, the developer, notes that while she has been underperforming for a while now, her dominance during the beta period of the game is a far cry from her current state. We are trying to address both of these issues by making a change to Nakia, creating a simpler and stronger card. This change is especially complex for a debuting card in Series 2, in addition to addressing those specific concerns.
As time goes on, we will keep making updates in this manner. Clear, coherent, and simple to understand SNAP cards are what help our teachings align more effectively with the wording of a few cards, in order to enhance only the adjustments mentioned below.

Notes that there is an unresolved inconsistency in the capitalization of the word “cost” in this text.

When Is The Next Marvel Snap Balance Patch
For those who are really curious, Marvel Snap receives a new patch every month, and these patches are usually released on Tuesdays, occurring every four weeks.
The final Marvel Snap patch was launched on July 12, 2023. Taking into account this, we anticipate that the upcoming Marvel Snap Patch will be released on August 8, 2023.
In an attempt to improve the underperforming game, Dinner Second is planning to make updates to the cards. These updates will likely include a few additional cards as well as fixes and major changes. The focus will be on improving the game each week, and the updates from Air Over will be separate and completely different from these patches. Please note this.
This is a fairly common practice for card games, and regular balance updates are always appreciated, particularly when a specific card or deck is dominating the metagame.
Nerfing overpowered cards in TCGs and digital card games is a much better game for overall longevity and health. Of course, effects and stats fluctuate in these games. There is a likelihood that there will be no compensation given to players who have purchased these cards. However, it is not yet known whether there will be any potential compensation for nerfs to Season Pass cards.
