She also appeared on the third season of “Celebrity Rehab” and continued to discuss her recovery on “The View” in 2010. Although she completed a drug diversion program, she was arrested in 2008 for possession of heroin and cocaine, and her case was eventually dismissed. Despite this, she continued to struggle with drug abuse. In 1992, she underwent nine months of intensive treatment at a long-term drug rehab program and continued to struggle with drug abuse. Initially, she was successful in her recovery, but she relapsed into cocaine use in 1982. After checking herself into rehab at Fair Oaks Hospital, Phillips suffered two fatal overdoses. She was fired from the show and would sometimes arrive incoherent. Phillips was often arrested for disorderly conduct, as she frequently abused alcohol and drugs. This behavior continued throughout the third season of “One Day at a Time” in 1977.

Phillips has been upfront in her memoir “Arrival on High” in 2009 about the role her father played in her lifetime troubles with drug addiction. She writes that her father had the habit of injecting drugs and she took her first dose of cocaine when she was only 11 years old. She also discloses in her book that she had a sexual relationship with her father on the night before her first wedding, a fact that was confirmed in later interviews. She goes on to describe how their relationship continued even after she got pregnant by her father and had an abortion. Although both her first and second wives denied that such a relationship ever occurred, other members of Phillips’ family have come out in support of her claims.

Philips ended her marriage with guitarist Michael Barakan in 2000 after they had a child together named Shane. Prior to this, she had been wedded to Jeffrey Sessler, a manager for a rock group, from 1979 to 1981.
