Bergamasco Sheepdog
It is a fact that the Bergamasco is one of the rarest dog breeds. Not only is it a fun family member, but it also forms individual relationships with each family member. Despite their extra-long eyelashes, which help keep their eyes protected from snowblindness, don’t worry about their eyes falling over their shaggy coats – they are both adorable and protective. However, these coats also serve as a warning sign for heat stroke in dogs, as they are designed to regulate their temperature. Therefore, Bergamasco dogs should never be shaved, as their coats are made up of three types of wool and goat hair, which together form mats. Unlike their mop-like cousins, the Hungarian Komondors, the Bergamasco’s cords are flat and resemble rope-like strands. These shaggy sweeties, weighing between 55-70 pounds, were bred in proud tradition to herd and guard sheep in the Italian Alps, hailing from the larger mop-like dogs that resemble them.

Komondor
When you think of dogs that look like mops, the first image that probably comes to mind is this shaggy beauty. The Komondor is an ancient Hungarian breed, bred to guard sheep against poachers and wolves. They have adorable mop-like cords that protect them from the harsh Hungarian winter and the sharp teeth of predators. It’s a bonus that when a wolf tries to blend in with the flock, they get a big surprise when they turn out to be an unimpressed dog mop weighing 80-100 pounds. Here’s how much your dog really needs exercise. SWDs, or Spanish Water Dogs, are great companions for snowshoeing or hiking. They are very active, intelligent, and weigh between 30-50 pounds. Unlike other herding dogs, SWDs have a single coat with fewer undercoat hairs, meaning they have fewer cords. Their cords can grow out and become woolly and curly, making them look like mop-like cords. These gorgeous mops love playing fetch in the creek and are just heaven when it comes to drying them completely. SWDs were bred as herding dogs, but they are a completely different pooch. Although they are related to the famous Portuguese Water Dogs, SWDs have their own unique characteristics.

Maintaining a Havanese coat is like using a mop – it takes effort, but the results are worth it. You’ll need to regularly groom them, including cleaning their ears and separating mats. Havanese dogs, weighing between 7-13 pounds (small), have cute button eyes and round noses, giving them a mop-like appearance. They are social and smart, making them a great city dog. Puli
Your toddler might even get a gentle tug if they try to start herding anything, as Pulik are very loyal and have a strong herding instinct. However, these adorable moppish dogs are not just a mop. The clever Puli would have no problem learning tricks for their master. They are also incredibly intelligent and require lots of mental and physical stimulation. Unlike their larger and heavier relatives, Pulik weigh only 25 to 35 pounds, making them much smaller. However, they can be distinguished from their big brothers by the difference in size and the range of coat colors, from black to silver to white. These moppish beauties are known as the acrobats of the dog world, sometimes jumping up on the slower backs of sheep in the flock. Pulik, the plural form of Puli (the “k” is silent), were bred to be herding dogs. Unlike their heavier and larger relatives, Pulik have a mop-like appearance that makes it clear they are related closely to the Komondor breed.
