Guanajuato possesses numerous small streets and alleys, however, El Callejon del Beso stands out as the narrowest alley in Guanajuato.
The alley itself is very short, extending approximately 20m only, and the steps are very steep. Thanks to a tragic love story within Mexico, it is famous as “The Alley of Kisses” when translated into English.
The houses on both sides of the alley are painted in the traditional Guanajuato orange while the balconies at the upper levels alomst touch.

El Callejon del Beso Tourist Guide
The Alley of the Kisses, also known as El Callejon del Beso in Spanish, derives its name from the close proximity of the upper windows and balconies. This closeness allows lovers to exchange kisses across the narrow alley.
The balconies of Beso del Callejon El appear to be touching each other directly, as they are measured to be only 1.5 meters apart from the lower levels. The balconies on the upper floors are so narrow that they are almost touching their neighbors’ windows.
In order for a young couple visiting the alley to ensure 15 years of happiness in their relationship, they are required to kiss on the third step. The alley, known as the “Kiss Alley,” is steeped in superstition due to the tragic tale of the ill-fated young lovers.
Alley of the kiss Guanajuato Tradition
Joyful are the romantics who safeguard and guarantee that their souls and mortality are under constant vigilance. In the place where the young man supposedly takes his last breath, this particular step in the alley will bring seven years of heartbreak and sorrow to the couple, should they dare to exchange a kiss on any other step.
The alley of the kisses is situated in the southern part of the historic center, adjacent to Plaza de los Angeles. It is surrounded by a late-night market and various small food stalls.
The lane is simple to find from the opposite side as it is near a lively green colored water fountain.
Since the superstition and legend of the El Callejon del Beso are incredibly renowned, it is anticipated that numerous other visitors will join Mexicans in experiencing it.
