Three employees who lost their lives have also been identified: Cynthia Peak, 61, Katherine Koonce, 60, and Mike Hill, 61.
According to Metro police, the shooting commenced when Hale entered the school by discharging bullets through a side entrance at 10:13 a.M. He proceeded to move from the first floor to the second floor, firing numerous rounds.
According to the police report, the individual who encountered Hale on the school’s second level, rushed towards the noise of gunshots, and entered the premises, was shot and killed by the officers.
The body camera footage, which was released, credits two officers, Officer Michael Collazo, a veteran of 9 years, and Officer Rex Engelbert, a veteran of 4 years, for apprehending the shooter.
Throughout the video, the sound of sirens can be heard. The shooter is upstairs, and although two kids are locked downstairs, he encounters a teacher who informs him that they are unaccounted for. Before arriving at the school, Officer Englebert shows him the body-worn camera from which he can grab his rifle.
Officer Englebert shouts “Come on” as an entrance door is opened and Metro officers enter the school.
They clear the way upstairs, moving from classroom to classroom, in order to make it safe for the officers. Additional gunshots from Hale’s weapons may be heard.
Officer Englebert’s camera shows closing officers moving to Hale, dropping their weapons, and moving to the main stairwell where the shooter is.
Officer Collazo’s camera shows him enter the school and attempt to immediately run to the second floor but the door is locked.
While en route to the second story, he quickly returns to the first floor and proceeds to clear additional rooms alongside his fellow officers.
Police said that Hale was deceased by 10:27 a.M., While the officers were running towards the main stairwell and bringing Hale down, additional gunshots can be heard on Officer Collazo’s video.
Allegedly, Hale was equipped with two assault-style firearms and one pistol. Furthermore, authorities have stated that Hale’s residence has been located and thoroughly searched, revealing detailed blueprints of the school, encompassing areas under surveillance and potential entry points, along with a manifesto purportedly discovered. According to the police.
During a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon, Chief John Drake said that five different stores in the area legally sold seven firearms. Investigators believe that three of those guns, which were used in Monday’s shooting, were hidden in the parents’ home where they were shared with their children.
Hale reportedly received care under a doctor for an assumed emotional disorder, as they sold their parents’ gun and only owned one.
Despite experiencing specific mental health challenges, Hale possessing firearms, there are currently no regulations in effect that could have stopped the chief from including them.
Over the course of the day, the incidents transpired, particularly considering the difficulty of listening to the distressing calls. The shooting prompted three 911 calls, which were disclosed by authorities on Thursday.
