Puerto Rican trap singer Bad Bunny is pretty new to appearing in movies, but he’s already had his first on-screen gay kiss.
The artist, who is known best for being one of the most-streamed singers of all time, recently dipped his toe into acting by starring in a biopic called Cassandro, which is about the life of a gay professional wrestler named Same Name.
Later this year, Cassandro is scheduled to debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January and will be available for streaming on Amazon’s Prime.
In the film, Gael García Bernal, a Mexican actor, portrays the main character, while Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, plays one of Cassandro’s romantic partners.
The pair enjoy a kiss in one scene, and now Bad Bunny has reflected on how the “cool” experience made him feel.
In an interview with Time magazine, he remarked, “I had my inaugural cinematic kiss with a man… That’s the consequence I face for having been involved with numerous women throughout my life.”
He stated, “If you’re portraying a character, you’re essentially assuming a different identity.” I responded, “‘Certainly, I am available for any requests you may have,’ in response to their inquiry.” I didn’t experience any discomfort; it was quite enjoyable.
He enjoyed a snog with both a backing dancer and a female during his performance at last year’s MTV Music Video Awards. The kiss on the big screen during Bunny’s Bad might not be exactly a stranger to queer intimacy, but it could be Bunny’s first on the big screen.
While certain fans immediately cried out “queerbaiting”, others were delighted to witness one of the global’s largest artists showcasing sexual versatility.
In the year 2020, within Puerto Rico, a transgender lady called Alexa Negrón was tragically killed, and Bad Bunny expressed a heartfelt homage to her, displaying his endorsement for individuals who perform in drag and being a vocal champion for the LGBTQ+ society. Bad Bunny has consistently been a promoter for the LGBTQ+ society.
Currently, he is working on a Netflix show inspired by the LGBTQ+ young adult book They Both Die at the End. Additionally, he was recently recognized and honored by the GLAAD Media Awards for his unwavering support and advocacy.
In the coming years, he might develop an attraction towards men, stating that he has always advocated for the idea that sexual orientation can change, whereas Bad Bunny has previously identified himself as straight.
He expressed his sexual orientation in an interview with the LA Times, stating, “It does not determine my identity.” “I cannot predict if I will be attracted to men in 20 years, as one can never know what the future holds. However, currently, I am heterosexual and attracted to women,” he stated.
