Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy has warned that if Donald Trump wins the primary and faces Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election, the Republican party is bound to “lose everything.”
“But that’s the truth. Choose him if you desire, but that’s the reality. The Democrats use the Supreme Court to reshape majorities and we will lose. If we finally understand that, collapse will support him. The Democrats will launch a barrage against him before he gets nominated, but Trump already has a 65% chance of winning: it’s very straightforward,” tweeted Rudy Giuliani, a former attorney who previously served as an attorney for McCarthy, on Sunday, writing on Twitter under the username X.
McCarthy likely refers to a recent ABC poll that showed 65 percent of Americans view his alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, related to Trump’s federal indictment, as serious.
As per FiveThirtyEight, Ron DeSantis, the Governor of Florida, lagged behind him with 14.8 percent of the vote, whereas Trump amassed 54.3 percent of Republican votes as of August 20. Despite currently encountering significant legal issues due to four distinct indictments since the start of the year, Trump continues to hold a substantial lead over their competitor in Republican primary polls.
McCarthy, who previously worked as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York starting in 1986 and departed from his position in 2003, currently holds the role of a columnist for National Review. In response to inquiries from users identified as X who provided their feedback on his initial post on the social media platform, McCarthy responded by stating that he was unable to find it within himself to cast a vote in favor of Trump.
Following that, there were at least 2 disastrous years. Democrats would lead to our downfall. His campaign cannot succeed. However, that is inconsequential because I could not support him. Personally, he ought to have been disqualified. This implies that he should have been found guilty during the impeachment trial,” he expressed. I pondered.
McCarthy’s cautions addressing Users seemed to be split, with one suggesting that “if Trump truly loved his country, he should step down and support one of the many competent candidates on the conservative side,” while others criticized the Republican writer and supported Trump.
It appears that user X, who often criticizes Trump by using the expression “Squad RINO,” is accusing McCarthy of being a Republican “RINO.” The user wrote, “Here we go with the squad RINO, bashing his critics within the Republican Party, just like we heard in 2016.”
It was not the first time that McCarthy voiced such a stark warning to his party, as he argued in an article titled “Trump can’t win,” published in the National Review on August 1. In the article, he emphasized that the former president, who was elected president again, does not have a prayerful approach.
The ex-president backed the contenders due to whom the 2022 midterm elections “red wave” failed to materialize, and McCarthy blamed Trump for causing Republicans to lose control of the Senate.
McCarthy stated, “The Democrats are attempting to secure Trump’s nomination as they are aware that they would convincingly defeat him in November 2024,” further stating that the accusations against Trump were intended to energize his followers.
According to FiveThirtyEight, the number of votes for the Republican president on January 1st was inflated by almost 10 percentage points, with a count of 43.4 percent. Despite the indictments against him, Trump’s support base has been steadily growing since the beginning of the year.
