The authorities mentioned that the suspect was apprehended on Monday, causing a 12-hour lockdown and inducing panic on campus. They stated that three current players from the school’s football team, as well as a former student and member of the University of Virginia, were fatally shot upon their return from a field trip.

The children were taught to remember everything as the active shooter drills were conducted, and they listened to police scanners. Students sought safety in apartments, libraries, dorm rooms, and closets, while police searched for the gunman throughout the night. Officials received information during a morning news briefing that the suspect, 22-year-old Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., Had been apprehended.

Jones, the Chief of Police, expressed his gratitude and relief after learning about the custody of Sr. Longo at the university, saying, “I am just thankful to God for giving me this moment to breathe a sigh of relief.”

Near a parking garage, violence broke out as a charter bus, filled with students, returned to Charlottesville from watching a play around 10:15 p.M. On Sunday in Washington.

University President Jim Ryan asserted that the officials lacked a “full understanding” of the motive or circumstances related to the shooting.

“The entire university community is mourning this morning,” a visibly stressed Ryan said.

Three individuals were injured and 10 individuals lost their lives during a shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo. In a shooting at a Fourth of July parade in a suburb of Chicago, more than 30 individuals were killed, including seven people. Additionally, during an attack, two teachers and 19 students were killed, marking another incident in a series of mass shootings that occurred over the past six months. These incidents occurred during a critical time in the nation’s history, highlighting the prevalence of such killings.

Lake, a third-year student from Crozet, Virginia, frequently found himself spending the night with friends, often in a storage closet within a lab room.

Elizabeth Paul, a student from northern Virginia, was working at a computer in the library when she received a call from her mother, who had been informed about the shooting.

Her computer displayed an alert about an individual actively shooting when she recognized the importance of treating it seriously. At first, she dismissed any worry, assuming it was likely a trivial matter, Paul recounted.

“I believe it mentioned, ‘Escape. Conceal. Defend,'” she stated.

In the library, Paul mentioned that she remained clustered with several others. Alongside her mother, she dedicated the majority of the night conversing on the phone.

She mentioned that she wanted to be on the line if there was something she needed, but not necessarily talking to her the whole time.

Ryan identified the three killed students as Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., And D’Sean Perry.

According to Ryan, two students were injured and taken to the hospital.

Mike Hollins, a running back on the football team, was in stable condition Monday, his mother, Brenda Hollins, told The Associated Press.

“She remarked, upon her flight from Louisiana to Virginia, that he is demonstrating resilience. Mike is a tenacious individual. We are fortunate to have skilled doctors working with him. Additionally, we rely on the guidance and blessings of God, which are paramount.”

The lockdown order was lifted on Monday morning. An exhaustive search of the campus, conducted building by building, involved a vigorous pursuit that triggered the shooting incident.

Jones was apprehended without any trouble in the outskirts of Richmond, according to the authorities.

Longo stated that the arrest warrants for Jones accused him of three instances of second-degree murder and three instances of employing a firearm while committing a serious crime.

It was not immediately evident whether Jones had legal representation or when he would have his initial court appearance.

His father, Chris Jones Sr., Told Richmond TV station WTVR he was in disbelief after getting a call from police on Monday.

He expressed, “I am sorry and, speaking on his behalf, I deeply regret the situation, although I am at a loss for words. I sympathize with their families, my heart is filled with compassion for them.”

Longo stated, “for a minimum of one year, he had not been involved in the squad, but he had previously been a member of the football team, Jones.” According to the UVA football website, he did not participate in any matches and was identified as a team member throughout the 2018 season.

“The victims stated that all of them were well-behaved children. Tony Elliott, the first-year head football coach, often sat alone outside the athletic building, reflecting on his team’s performance. However, after a few hours, Jones, the head coach, was apprehended by the authorities.”

“He said that the representatives of our community and university program worked incredibly hard and inspired us, deeply touching our lives. We are fortunate to have them as a part of our lives. Unfortunately, these young men were called away too soon, and they are precious to us.”

Jones came to the attention of the university’s threat-assessment team after apparently making a remark about possessing a gun and mentioning a school in relation to an unaffiliated person.

No threat was reported in conjunction with the concern about the weapon, but officials looked into it, following up with Jones’ roommate.

Longo also stated that Jones had participated in a “hazing inquiry of some kind.” He mentioned that the investigation was concluded due to a lack of cooperation from witnesses, although he admitted to not having all the details and specifics of that particular incident.

Longo said that the incident should not have been reported to the university. He learned about a prior incident involving weapons outside Charlottesville, officials said. Additionally, there was an addition.

Em Gunter, a second-year anthropology student, heard three gunshots and then three more while she was studying genetics in her dorm room.

The shooter was active outside, and she knew to run away right. She told others to go to their rooms and turn off the lights, and close their blinds. She stayed in her room for the next 12 hours. She was stuck in her room with a friend, listening to a police scanner. Her family and friends were in other areas of the campus, messaging her.

She mentioned that students are familiar with how to react during active shooter drills.

“But how do we deal with it afterwards?” She asked. “What’s it going to be like in a week, in a month?”.

“Generalized gun violence,” noted Eva Surovell, the editor in chief of the student newspaper The Cavalier Daily, grew up with her generation.

“But that doesn’t make it any simpler when it’s your own locality,” she stated.

On Tuesday, academic activities and other classes were canceled. An impromptu vigil drew a large crowd on Monday night. A university-wide vigil is being planned for a later date, in memory and respect of the victims and their families from the Charlottesville community. Glenn Youngkin, the Governor, ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday.

A large number of worshippers gathered on Monday evening at St. Paul’s Memorial Church campus for a prayer ceremony.

An officiant, praying, expressed, “In this fallen world, innocent people have been slaughtered due to violence. Let us all mourn for D’Sean, Lavel, and Devin, and may we have pity upon them and ourselves.”

Police in Moscow, Idaho, were investigating the deaths of four University of Idaho students found Sunday in a residence near the campus, which authorities labeled as homicides.
