The Emergency Management of York County confirms that the incident at Sanford High School & Regional Technical Center is a false alarm.
The authorities informed the caller that an active shooter was present on the first floor of the high school. The caller reported that the shooter, dressed in a black coat and black pants, was armed with a gun. The call came from an untraceable number around 8:20 am on Tuesday. According to officials, the call was received by the regional Sanford communications center.
During the call, Lieutenant Matthew Gagne of the Sanford police mentioned that there were already two school resource officers present at the high school.
Once the data was collected, the schools in Sanford entered a state of lockdown, as stated by the superintendent.
Officials stated that both Gardiner and Portland schools received identical reports describing a gunman.
After receiving the report, Sanford’s fire chief Steve Benotti stated that they promptly responded with multiple units, including those from nearby regions.
The fire chief said that the crews were demobilized after responding to the active shooter training, as there were no patients found on the scene despite having enough resources.
Benotti stated that up until now, no dreadful consequences have emerged, and we can express our gratitude to fortunate circumstances that no one desires to experience this kind of predicament. “We must prepare ourselves to handle such occurrences,” as it is simply the reality of the world we inhabit.

Maine State Police said they are aware of multiple active shooters throughout the state, and they believe all of them to be hoaxes.
“Thank heavens nothing occurred down at the educational institution today,” Gagne expressed.
“We are extremely lucky that it was not believable,” Superintendent Matt Nelson expressed, including satisfaction in the reaction of faculty, pupils, and emergency personnel. “We gained genuine experience today.”
