Arnold Schwarzenegger, the gubernatorial candidate for California, discussed topics such as homosexuality, bodybuilding, drugs, and sex in an interview with an adult magazine in 1977, which is now circulating on the internet. (CNN) Los Angeles, California.
The interview, filled with explicit and vulgar remarks, is gaining renewed attention with Schwarzenegger’s campaign to succeed Democratic Governor Gray Davis.
Schwarzenegger has changed his reaction to the recent finding overnight, stating on Thursday that he couldn’t recall the publication.
“I have no clue what they’re discussing,” he reiterated three times, when questioned about the article during a campaign visit in Fresno.
He informed journalists that he was in Fresno to promote his economic plan.
“I don’t have any memory of articles from 20 or 30 years ago. I’m not paying attention to any of those things. He said, ‘I’m not paying attention to what I’m doing, that’s all.'”
Some conservatives have been made uncomfortable by the actor’s bid, but multiple surveys have indicated that Schwarzenegger is the leading GOP candidate. The October 7 recall ballot will feature the names of 135 contenders, including Schwarzenegger.
At the time of the interview with Oui magazine, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who later went on to launch his career in Hollywood, was promoting a documentary on bodybuilding called “Iron Pumping,” which helped make action movies popular.
Schwarzenegger appeared to recall the article on Wednesday during a radio interview.
Mark Williams from KFBK station in Sacramento inquired the candidate:
I will tell you, Arnold, that you were having a lot more fun than I was in 1977. I don’t know if you’ve seen today’s Gun Smoking (The) or not, but there’s an old magazine called Oui that you had a lot of fun with in 1977.
I have never lived the life of a governor in California. I have never lived the life of a politician. I understand exactly what you are saying, I know what you mean…Well, responded Schwarzenegger.
He stated, “I was consistently like that … Otherwise I wouldn’t have accomplished the actions that I undertook in my profession, with the muscle building, and the entertainment industry and all those activities.” “Clearly, I’ve uttered declarations that are absurd and insane and shocking and all those things, because that’s the manner I perpetually was.”
Schwarzenegger mentioned that an interview he would conduct today would be distinct from one over 20 years ago.
In an interview with Oui magazine in 1977, Schwarzenegger describes an incident involving a group of bodybuilders and a woman having sex in a gym in California.
“Everyone leaped onto her and brought her upstairs where we all gathered,” the magazine quoted Schwarzenegger as stating.
Pete Manso, the author of the 1977 article, has verified its credibility. CNN also reached out to campaign assistants who declined to provide further information about the article when interviewed by CNN, directing all inquiries to the candidate directly.
Manso informed CNN’s Paula Zahn on Thursday that he intends to search his “storage container” for the recordings of his conversations with Schwarzenegger.
If Arnold wants to challenge the veracity of the piece, let him do so, he said in a telephone interview from Provincetown, Massachusetts.
Earlier, Manso informed CNN that he thinks Schwarzenegger should clarify if his present perspectives have altered.
In the magazine interview, the actor-turned-politician who was once a bodybuilder showed a relaxed approach towards sexuality.
During the interview, Schwarzenegger expressed, “It provides you with a sense of relief, and subsequently, you return to the more important matters.” He continued, “Having women around is the sort of thing that interrupts the rigorous training.”
When asked about homosexuality, Schwarzenegger made it clear that he was sexually interested in women, but stated that he had no problem with homosexuality.
He mentioned, “although it may not bother me at all, some bodybuilders may find it bothersome; I absolutely have no hang-ups about the business aspect.”
“The main idea is that I do whatever I desire,” expressed the weightlifter. Schwarzenegger is cited as stating that he had consumed “marijuana and hashish – not any potent substances.”
The pair has four kids and Schwarzenegger, who was unmarried during the interview, is wedded to TV reporter Maria Shriver – relative of President Kennedy.
In 1977, Schwarzenegger partnered with Douglas Kent Hall to coauthor a book titled “Arnold” that corresponds to a section from a magazine interview format.
He wrote, “For you, Arnold, this one’s for you. I always saw these guys with a girl. I started including myself in the older bodybuilders at the gym. I started being included in their parties. I had almost no hangups when it came to sex. I had no difficulty getting girls.”
“Women were objectified. I witnessed other bodybuilders utilizing them in this manner and I believed it was acceptable.”
He continues to state, however:.
My attitude has undergone a radical transformation. The reason I feel this way is because I have been used by women in the past. After four years of training, I realized that sex was just another form of exercise and that I had never had any meaningful communication with a girl until then.
