Among a multitude of exceptionally skilled contestants, R’Bonney Gabriel, Miss USA from New Orleans, Louisiana, was crowned as Miss Universe 2023 on Saturday.

Dana Walker, an American mother, and Gabriel, the proud daughter of Filipino father Remigio Bonzon “R. Bon” Gabriel, come from Houston, Texas. Gabriel, who is the first Filipino-American to be crowned both Miss USA and Miss Universe, is also the first Miss USA in more than ten years to win the prestigious title.

Gabriel is the eldest of her family, and she is extremely close to her family, even having her father as a model and three younger brothers.

Tagalog, one of the official languages of the Philippines, was translated as “Babae” for the “Tribe” collection of Gabriel’s previous contestant in a pageant and as a fashion designer. In her career, she incorporates elements of her Filipino and American heritage into her own line of eco-friendly clothing, Southern Beauty. Before launching her own line, Nicole Miller also interned as a fashion designer and studied fibers with a minor in fashion at the University of North Texas.

The crown for Miss Universe 2023 will be bestowed upon the winner of Miss India, Harnaaz Sandhu. Titled “Good Force,” the crown is a creation by Mouawad Jewelry, featuring a blue sapphire and diamond. Contestants from at least 80 countries will compete for the crown this year, as the event calls upon contestants from its own center in New Orleans, held on January 14th at the Ernest N.
