In the final of the women’s NCAA Tournament, Angel Reese backed Caitlin Clark with a mocking gesture, saying “you can’t see me” after LeBron James, the NBA legend.
The college basketball competition came to a dramatic conclusion with the Tigers from LSU (Louisiana State University) winning their first championship, celebrating Caitlin Clark, who has been recognized as one of the best players in the tournament, while taunting Reese Angel, her former opponent from the Iowa Hawkeyes, at the expense of their success.
During the tournament, Clark had a celebrated version of John Cena, the WWE wrestler, doing a trademark gesture. However, when Reese directed the celebration back at Clark on Sunday night, the tables were turned. She pointed her finger at the ring, adding an extra dose of mockery by adorning it with a championship ring, during the final moments of the game.
Josiah Johnson, the presenter of YouTube series Gil’s Arena, showcased a viral image displaying a lady strolling away from a blazing vehicle, prompting LeBron James, the prominent Lakers player, to respond with admiration for Reese’s boldness in a tweet.
“Angel Reese to all the haters after winning the national championship,” wrote Johnson, to which James replied: “FACTS!!!! Love to see it.”.
What a classless move by Angel Reese, drawing criticism from various quarters for taunting Danny Kanell, the former NFL quarterback, in his article for CBS Sports.
Reese addressed her critics after the game, noting that the reaction to her celebration has been distinct from Clark’s previous mocking of opponents in earlier rounds of the tournament.
Reese spoke at a media briefing, expressing, “I do not conform to the mold that you all desire me to adhere to. I possess an excessive amount of urban characteristics, I am too associated with low-income neighborhoods. Throughout the entire year, you all constantly reminded me of this fact.”
“When others do it, y’all don’t say anything. This was for the individuals who resemble me.”
She later included in a tweet: “and no I’M NOT MAINTAINING A PLEASANT APPEARANCE.😘”.
There were plenty of fans who wanted to join in the debate on James’ post but not all agreed with his sentiments.
Play the game well, so you can taunt them repeatedly and just chase down your competitors at the end of the game. “One person replied,” said LeBron.
Another individual promptly came to his defense, asserting that Reese’s reaction was completely warranted.
She is an excellent player and driven like any respectable American should be. Congratulations to Angel! A bit of excitement adds to its liveliness. Life can be quite dull. All the legends in every sport have achieved this–except perhaps in golf. I am fairly certain that he will do so eventually. They responded on Twitter.
