In the year 2019, at Pechanga Resort Casino in California, a senior lady was discovered with a fractured cranium on the restroom floor. The sibling of LA Clippers celebrity Kawhi Leonard has been condemned to a lifetime in jail without the chance of release for her killing.
The Press-Enterprise stated that Leonard’s elder sibling, Kimesha Williams, 39, and Candace Townsell, 42, were convicted on Friday for the murder of Afaf Assad, an 84-year-old lady from Long Beach.
Both females were found guilty of first-degree homicide, theft, and mistreatment of the elderly in February following a month-long court case.
Assad was found unconscious on the bathroom floor, according to deputies from the Southwest Sheriff’s Station. They received a call to the luxurious hotel and casino in Temecula, which is located approximately two hours south of Los Angeles, around 8am on August 31, 2019.
As reported by The Press-Enterprise, Youanness, a 93-year-old woman, and her husband, who have been married for 59 years, arrived at the casino carrying a handbag filled with $1,000. Eventually, Assad decided to go to the restroom, and Williams accompanied her, while Townsell kept watch and even prevented a custodian from entering at one point. The Press-Enterprise states that Youanness, who has been married for 59 years, and her husband entered the casino with $1,000 in their purse.
After Townsell, Williams finally departed the restroom and swiftly headed towards the exit, just moments before a woman in one of the stalls heard a loud noise indicating the commencement of Assad’s assault, which went unnoticed by any observers.
Assad passed away four days later at a nearby medical facility after being admitted with ‘severe injuries.’
According to the Press Enterprise, her vibrant pink handbag disappeared and was never recovered. Throughout the trial, Marcus Garrett, a Senior Deputy District Attorney in Riverside County, argued that the purse was forcefully taken from Assad’s arm, highlighting a ‘severe cut’ where the strap used to be on the older lady’s body.
Garrett also argued that Assad had either been forced or stumbled. Leonard was absent during his sister’s sentencing on Friday.
Williams and Townsell were familiar with officials at the Pechanga Resort and other casinos in the Inland Empire before Assad’s murder nearly four years ago.
The Press-Enterprise News was informed by a casino representative that Williams was indefinitely prohibited from entering Pechanga due to his theft of someone’s wallet in 2015. According to a legal document submitted by Garrett, Leonard’s sister was also permanently banned from the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon and the Yaamava Casino in Highland after forcefully taking away winning tickets from individuals.
As per Garret’s submission, the vanishing of two handbags ensued after Townsell was prohibited from the Soboba Casino Resort in close proximity to San Jacinto for a duration of 90 days in 2017. Moreover,
After a pushing incident with her boyfriend, she was subsequently prohibited from Morongo Casino in 2018.
According to Press-Enterprise News, Williams had previously been found guilty of another offense, which was an attempted robbery, in Los Angeles County.
