The suspect, who is accused of killing 10 people in a mass shooting at Monterey Park, California, was found dead in a van with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities.

The motive for the attack remains unknown, and there were no other identified suspects, said Sheriff Robert Luna of Los Angeles County. Tran Can Huu, a 72-year-old man, was identified as the victim on Sunday.

Earlier, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released photographs of the individual in question. A second firearm was found inside the van where Tran’s lifeless body was located. The individual was in possession of a semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine, as stated by the sheriff.

Tran is accused of firing a gun inside the Star Ballroom Dance Studio on Saturday night, leading to the fatalities of 10 people and the harm of an additional 10.

Later, the suspect allegedly entered a second club, Lai Lai, in the neighboring city of Alhambra, where bystanders disarmed him before anyone could get hurt.

According to the police, Tran was located inside a white van in Torrance’s parking lot during a standoff, and he allegedly shot himself.

The couple ended their marriage in 2005.

CNN quoted another long-time acquaintance as saying that the gunman used to frequent the dance studio when he wasn’t clear.

At the studio, Tran was “unfriendly towards many individuals,” stated a close acquaintance who was acquainted with Tran during the late 2000s and early 2010s when they both frequented the establishment.

“Instructors didn’t think he liked dancing and said there were evil aspects to him.”

During that time, Tran resided in close proximity to the club, just a five-minute drive away, and would frequently visit it almost every night, as he mentioned.

The two friends hadn’t encountered each other in years before the shooting on Saturday, he mentioned.

He said he is completely shocked to learn that some of his friends may be among the victims and that he is allegedly responsible for the mass shooting.

“I know many individuals, and if they visit Star studio, they often go there,” he mentioned.

Brandon Tsay, a 26-year-old coder from Lai Lai, bravely wrestled away the gun from Tran, a member of the runs family, in a terrifying moment captured on surveillance footage.

Mr. Tsay was in the office, watching the ballroom from the lobby when he heard the noise of metal striking metal and the sound of the swinging doors in front of him. He mentioned that he was in the New York Times.

In that instance, he mentioned that he spun around to observe the suspect aiming a firearm at him.

Mr. Tsay, described as the “menacing” suspect, managed to disarm the gunman before the altercation escalated between the two men. He was determined to prevent any harm and did not hesitate to search his surroundings and keep an eye on me.

Tran escaped from the scene.

In Torrance, approximately 30 miles away from Monterey Park, a law enforcement confrontation reached its climax approximately 12 hours later, apprehending the individual following an extensive search operation.

Officers observed Tran operating the vehicle in the vicinity of Torrance, while witnesses of the Alhambra occurrence had indicated the presence of a white van at the location.

Robert Luna, the Sheriff of Los Angeles County, stated at a press conference on Sunday that Tran drove into a closed police parking lot and shot himself dead.

“When officers exited their patrol vehicle to contact the occupant, they heard one gunshot coming from within the van,” the sheriff said.

The SWAT teams surrounded the car before moving towards the van and finding Tran dead inside from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to his statement.

Evidence discovered within the automobile – including a firearm – purportedly connects the 72-year-old to the act of shooting.

Authorities believe Tran acted independently and are not searching for any other individuals in relation to the mass shooting.
