Many researchers in various disciplines seek to differentiate between social problems, as well as political, economic, and social policies, trends, and studies for a Latino or Hispanic individual.

“The term ‘Latino’ refers to individuals who are descendants of the Spanish-speaking population or who speak Spanish, while the term ‘Hispano’ is used to describe people who speak Spanish.”

This is due to its geographical and idiomatic connotation. Let’s examine it further.

What does “hispano” mean and where does it come from?

In a literal sense, “hispano” refers to individuals who speak Spanish or descend from a Spanish-speaking lineage.

    Non-exclusive terms

For these reasons, it is important to understand the distinction between a Latino and a Hispanic.

Latinos can also be Hispanics, but not all Hispanics are necessarily Latinos.

Por ejemplo, las personas de Brasil son latinas, pero no son hispanas, debido a que el español no es su idioma nativo.

In Latin America, people can be considered Hispanic, not necessarily Latin, just like people from Spain, in a similar manner.

Spanish is spoken in Mexico, which is located in Latin America, so someone who is born there can naturally be a Hispanic and Latina person at the same time.
