Death, the State of the Dead, and Resurrection

Humans, as we know them, will never die on this earth. Most people have wondered at some point in their lives about the afterlife, where they will end up after death.

It’s not something we truly enjoy contemplating. It may even seem like a distressing topic. However, the inquiry persists.

Seventh-day Adventists adhere to the teachings of the Bible regarding what occurs after our mortal existence ceases. When it comes to addressing this challenging topic, we possess a dependable authority that informs us, and fortunately, it brings positive tidings.

We’ll look closely at:Output: We will examine in detail:

  • The true meaning of death.
  • What is the reason for the existence of death?
  • The large-scale revivals at the Second Coming of Jesus.
  • How all of this fits into the complete narrative of humanity.
  • Flowers blooming with headstones in the background.

What actually occurs when we pass away?

We are not aware of what is happening in the world. We are not aware of the passage of time after death. The Bible says nothing about those who have died.

God has returned one alive and resurrected until, which makes your spirit and body rest as the life-giving breath, and death is like a deep sleep.

If you want to know what happens when you die or if you’ve lost a loved one, point some of your mind at that weighing question.

“(Ecclesiastes 9:5,6, ESV) The deceased possess no knowledge, and they do not receive any further compensation, as their memory is lost, but the living are aware of their impending mortality. Everything that occurs on Earth, they no longer have a portion in, and eternally their affection, animosity, and jealousy have already ceased to exist.”

“And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7, ESV).

In the beginning, God created man in the Garden of Eden from the dust of the earth. Adam’s life began as he took his first breath through his nostrils.

At that instant, Adam transformed into a living entity.

The Lord God then formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed life into his nostrils, thus making him a living creature.

In the verse, it is noticed that Adam became a living creature when God breathed life into his nostrils, as stated by Version James King.

The LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed life into his nostrils, making him a living soul.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that the soul is separate from the body. When we stop resting and breathing, we die. The breath is what makes a living creature – it is the breath that gives life to the living soul.

The soul cannot exist without the body or the breath. A soul is formed when a body is combined with the breath of life. According to Genesis 2:7, a living creature is considered a soul.

“…The physical body apart from the soul is lifeless” (James 2:26, ESV).

“As long as I have breath within me, and the divine spirit is in my nostrils” (Job 27:3, ESV).

Demonstrating this concept, one can observe a light bulb. Illumination within a light bulb is reliant on the presence of electricity. Both the lightbulb and electricity are essential components for generating light. Similarly, in the absence of God’s breath, the body lacks vitality. Your soul is not an independent entity.

For example, various denominations or religions teach different ideas about what happens when we die, such as the afterlife, the eternal nature of the soul, reincarnation, or purgatory.

It is important when looking at different ideas about the state of the dead to weigh each teaching according to the Bible.

“If they do not speak in accordance with this scripture, it is because there is no illumination within them” (Isaiah 8:20, NKJV).

They are simply waiting in the grave until Jesus returns. They are not being tormented anywhere else. They do not experience pain in the grave. They are peacefully resting in the grave. There is no need to worry about someone who has passed away and whom you loved. There is no need to worry about someone who has passed away and whom you loved. According to the Bible, death is like a peaceful sleep for the deceased, where they have no knowledge or awareness.

What is the reason for our mortality?

Sin entered this world at the very beginning of time in the Garden of Eden. The Bible tells us that death is the price we pay for sin, using different words to describe it as the wages of sin.

(Romans 6:23, ESV) The free gift of God is eternal life in our Lord Jesus Christ, but sin earns wages of death.

(Romans 5:12, ESV) Therefore, because all men have sinned, death spread to all, and sin entered the world through one man, sin came into the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all have sinned.

Adam and Eve were informed by God that if they consumed from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, it would result in their death. They were allowed to eat from all the trees in the garden except for one.

On that day, you shall definitely die if you eat it, but you should not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Unfortunately, we read that Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge, from which Adam also ate, sharing some of the fruit with her, and it was the Tree of Good and Evil.

She and her husband ate together, and she also gave some to him. She desired to make him wise, so she took the fruit of the tree. It was a delightful sight to her eyes, and she saw that the tree was good for food.

Because of our sinful nature, death is the physical end that we all face on day one. The news of death is not a good thing to have. However, through Jesus Christ, we have hope for eternal life and salvation.

    The Initial and Subsequent Revivals

    The Initial Revival

The initial revival can be described as follows: those who have died believing in Christ will experience a bodily resurrection and will go to Heaven with Him, at the time when Jesus returns at the end of all time.

This is the Great News! Followers have the expectation of everlasting life because they put their faith in the Lord Jesus.

We will be caught up together in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and then we who are alive will be left. And first, the dead will rise in Christ. And the Lord himself will descend from heaven with the sound of God’s trumpet and the voice of an archangel, with a cry of command.

They will go to Heaven. All faithful Christians who died and were faithful to Christ will join them. This resurrection is for those who were faithful to Christ and died. The first resurrection happens when Christ returns.

    The Subsequent Revival

Throughout their earthly existence, these individuals are the ones who chose not to adhere to the teachings of Christ. This revival is intended for those who were disloyal to Christ and occurs after the completion of the millennium.

This is the first resurrection mentioned in Revelation 20:5. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.

Regrettably, these individuals are not granted eternal life, but rather will confront the second demise.

What is the Concept of Eternal Damnation?

Those individuals who experience the second resurrection will encounter judgment. They will undergo a definitive demise that endures eternally.

In the book of Revelation, the second death is described as being thrown into the lake of fire. Hades and Death were also thrown into this fiery lake.

The fire of hell, where sinners are forever lost, may have pictures of suffering and eternal torment for you. The eternal consequence of being separated from God is the second death.

Is it true what the Bible says about those who die without faith in Jesus will face eternal separation from God, but not eternal suffering?

Only those who opt for redemption through Jesus (John 3:15-16; 17:3) will receive eternal life, and if immortal souls were to be tormented in hell for eternity, they would be considered wicked. The Scripture affirms that only God possesses immortality.

(1 Timothy 6:15, 16, ESV) or behold, the one who dwells in unapproachable light, the one who possesses immortality alone, the ruler of all rulers and the sovereign of all kings…

They are not forever destroyed, but rather burning eternally. When they die, they will not be lost like ash on the ground, and there will be no second death.

The blaze is a completely engulfing inferno. And once all evil has been eradicated, the flames will extinguish.

Is this a place with no fire to sit in front of? There is no coal for keeping oneself warm in this place. They are unable to escape from the power of the flames; the fire engulfs them completely. Look, they are like dry grass that gets consumed by fire.

At the conclusion of the millennium, upon their demise in the second demise, every evildoer will undergo the detachment from the divine presence that He encountered during Jesus’ crucifixion.

It was a heartbreaking sensation for Jesus and He lamented just before He passed away:.

(In Matthew 27:46, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, saying “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” Which means “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” It was around the ninth hour when he uttered these words.)

What occurs to the devoted followers of God?

“Subsequently, I witnessed a fresh celestial realm and a fresh planet, as the initial celestial realm and the initial planet had ceased to exist, and the ocean was nonexistent… And demise shall cease to exist, and there shall be no more lamentation, nor weeping, nor anguish, as the preceding things have vanished” (Revelation 21:1-4, ESV). Following the ultimate demise of the disloyal, the Almighty will fashion a pristine planet devoid of transgression and demise. The faithful followers of God will experience a existence devoid of distress and grief. They will revel in an everlasting state of bliss where transgression is nonexistent.

How can we get ready for death and the subsequent revivals?

Today, accept Jesus as your Savior. Seek a relationship with God if you want to be a part of the first resurrection.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

You can live a life of faith and be a part of God’s faithful people by engaging in prayer and studying the Bible at the end of time.

If you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, and if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9, ESV)

5 Easy Ways to Attain Salvation

  • Have faith in the title of Jesus Christ.
  • Acknowledge that you are a wrongdoer in need of a Redeemer.
  • Recognize that the consequence for wrongdoing is mortality.
  • Seek forgiveness from God and turn away from your wrongdoing.
  • Embrace Jesus as your individual Redeemer and pursue his teachings.
  • We want to be like Jesus, not just as a means of salvation but also out of love for Him. It is important to live a life as Christ lived in response to what God has done for you. Once you have accepted Jesus as your personal Savior, your response to God’s actions becomes living a life that reflects Christ.

The Bible contains these principles, and here are a couple of them. By adhering to the guiding principles, we can lead a life that resembles that of Christ. Our role model is Jesus!

However, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. In Galatians 5:23, it is mentioned that there are no laws against such things.

Finally, brothers, think about these things: if there is anything worthy of praise, if there is any excellence, if there is anything commendable, if there is anything lovely, if there is anything pure, if there is anything just, if there is anything honorable, if there is anything true.

“Do you love another one, as I have loved you? Just as I have loved you, I give you a new commandment.” (ESV, John 13:34)

Christians are meant to be a light in the community. Wherever you go, you should see Jesus in others. Jesus is love. Let’s follow His example!

One of the notable founders of the Adventist Church once stated,

The apostle’s admonition is to provoke love and good works unto one another. My sisters and brethren, cherish such a spirit no longer. It is a misrepresentation of the Christian faith to be unreasonable or sour in spirit. The pilgrim Christian cannot be sour, depressed, or gloomy in spirit.

Understanding the truth about death, the state of the dead, and the resurrection offers peace to you. If you have ever wondered if your loved ones who have passed away are presently suffering in hell or if they will be in heaven, this seemingly grim subject is important to Adventist Christians. It is important to Adventist Christians because it brings hope to those who are hurting.

It is comforting to understand that God is not vengeful, especially if you have ever pondered the afterlife. His wayward children would not be tormented by a kind God. He exhibits the mercy of God.

We also have hope in the resurrection of Christ, seeing our loved ones who have died to be resurrected again on day one soon.
