The election was certified by county supervisors at the end of the day, with the exception of several Republican-controlled counties. Despite delays in certification, there was no evidence of problems with the vote count in Cochise County, located in southeastern Arizona. However, the results have been certified in most counties throughout the country.
Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, stated prior to endorsing the certification, “Arizona conducted a prosperous election.” “However, frequently during the procedure, influential voices spread false information that posed a risk of depriving voters of their voting rights.”
Hobbs received the statewide certification, also known as a canvass, signed by Chief Justice Robert Brutinel, who was appointed by Ducey, and Republican Attorney General Mark Brnovich, along with Republican Gov. Doug Ducey.
WATCH: Arizona’s election certification postponed by unfounded allegations of fraud.
When the election was certified in 2020, Donald Trump, who was the President at the time, made a frantic attempt to persuade his Republican allies to overturn the election results and silence Governor Ducey’s call.
Ducey stated, “I don’t underestimate the importance of this duty.” “The votes cast by the citizens acknowledge someone who represents our exceptional state.”
Republicans have been voicing their concerns about Hobbs’ involvement, despite the fact that it is common for election officials to retain their position while running for a higher office, in order to assert her triumph in the governor race against Lake. The attention of Lake and her supporters has been directed towards the issues with the ballot printers, which resulted in approximately 17,000 untabulated ballots that had to be counted at the elections department headquarters.
County officials confirm that all valid votes were tallied and every individual had the opportunity to participate in the voting process. Despite the absence of any proof indicating its impact on the final results, there were delays observed at certain polling locations, which raised concerns among Republicans that certain backers were unable to exercise their right to vote.
Hamadeh Abe, the Republican candidate, narrowly won the general attorney race, defeating Kris Mayes, the Democrat, by receiving 2.5 million votes, which was just 510 votes more. This race is considered one of the closest contests in the state’s history. As per the law, since the margin of victory was less than half a percentage point, a statewide automatic recount is required. Therefore, Hobbs immediately planned to petition the Maricopa County Superior Court to begin the recount process.
The margins are significantly larger, however, the contests for superintendent of public instruction and a state legislative seat in the Phoenix suburbs will also undergo a recount.
Adrian Fontes, a Democrat, won the race for Secretary of State, and Mark Kelly, a Democratic Senator, was re-elected. In addition, in the 2020 election, Democrats resoundingly won races in Arizona’s stronghold, a Democratic state, after Republicans nominated a slate of candidates backed by Trump, focusing on supporting his false claims.
