After witnessing the widespread popularity of Nikki’s video, I decided to personally attempt the TikTok mac and cheese hack.
The ingredients quickly combine after being strained and returned to the pot, and then it is cooked perfectly, boxed macaroni typically takes around seven or eight minutes in boiling water.
The pot is placed on the stove before combining all the ingredients. What makes this TikTok mac and cheese recipe enticing is that there is no need for straining.
Here’s What I Thought

This TikTok trick for Kraft mac and cheese deserves all the attention it’s receiving!
Despite the challenge I often face, there is a simpler TikTok technique to drain pasta when there is a substantial amount of food. I prefer to avoid the intense steam and the effort of moving a heavy pot to the sink. However, using a colander to strain pasta is not physically demanding. Moreover, the fact that there is no need to strain the macaroni adds a pleasant aspect to the process.
When preparing the pasta, it is crucial to closely monitor the liquid and ensure that the water level is slightly higher than the noodles in Step 2. Certain individuals have experienced difficulties with the pasta being overcooked, however, in this case, the pasta was cooked flawlessly—it wasn’t excessively mushy and had precisely the desired level of tenderness.
I was pleasantly surprised when I topped off the black cracked pepper with a dash of it, just like Nikki does to make the pasta even cheesier. I thought this Kraft mac and cheese tasted delicious, and I used 2% milk as a reference. The cheese sauce itself was creamy and thick, not at all runny, and I dare say it was less salty. I was definitely able to tell that the ingredients weren’t just dumped in together, but instead simmered with the pasta itself, and I was able to tell this in the last minute.
During quarantine, all of us discovered the famous baked feta pasta, and of course, we decided to try more TikTok recipes. It’s never too late to give it a shot if you haven’t already, thanks to TikTok. I have to say, it’s safe to ditch those instructions on the box.
How to Make TikTok Mac and Cheese
Ingredients
Directions
Step 1: Measure ingredients
First, cut a stick a butter in half and measure out 1/4 cup of milk.. If you’re making two boxes of mac and cheese at once, don’t forget to double the ingredients.
Step 2: Combine ingredients

Place the pot on the stove and give the pasta, water, cheese, and butter a thorough stir. Save this for later and avoid adding milk. In the box, add the packets of cheese powder first, followed by butter. Once the water is filled and the pot is empty, cover the noodles completely with the water.
Step 3: Heat the pasta
It should only take a few minutes for the liquid to evaporate if you want to precisely achieve what you desire – as the noodles soften and the cheese sauce thickens together. Make sure to not cover the pot, as you’ll notice. Bring the heat down to low and let the pasta gently simmer while stirring. Heat the pasta by mixing it occasionally over medium heat on the stove until the water comes to a rolling boil.
Step 4: Add milk, mix and serve
Serve and switch off the stove when you’re content with the texture. Keep a watchful eye on it as you blend–you don’t desire the sauce to become excessively dense and adhesive, and incorporate it while the temperature is maintained at a low level and the macaroni is barely simmering. Introduce the milk once the cheesy sauce has become thick and there is minimal liquid remaining in the pot.
