University of Dayton announces death of Jayda Grant, daughter of basketball HC Anthony Grant

She was 20 years old. According to a statement from the athletic department and the university, Jayda Grant, the daughter of Anthony Grant, the Head Basketball Coach of the University of Dayton, has passed away.

The university and athletic department released a joint statement on Friday afternoon announcing the passing of Jayda.

“We posted on social media and obtained the joint statement from Neil Sullivan and Eric Dr. Spina, President of UD. We pray for their privacy, support, and peace during this period of immeasurable grief. We extend our deepest sympathies to Chris, Anthony, and their entire family. On behalf of the entire University of Dayton community, we mourn the passing of Jayda Grant with devastating heartache.”

Jayda was a 2019 graduate of Chaminade Julienne High School and was attending the University of Dayton, as stated in the obituary posted by Mortuary Roberts HH.

Jayda had a heart of gold and loved those dear to her deeply, as evidenced by her reading obituaries. She was a strong advocate for marginalized communities, including the LGBTQ+ community, and had a strong passion for social justice issues. Whether she was abroad or in the US, her passion for social justice remained unwavering. In her free time, Jayda enjoyed connecting with friends and spending time with her beloved dogs, as well as engaging in activities such as writing and reading.

Jayda, who was listed as a member of UD’s women’s track and field team in both the indoor 2020 and outdoor 2021 seasons, did not compete in the indoor 2020 season and the cancelled outdoor 2021 season, as mentioned in her biography.

Jayda and Chris, their beautiful family, left Earth too soon. On behalf of the Atlantic 10 Conference, we offer our deepest prayers and condolences to Coach Grant.

The spokesperson for the Greene County Coroner’s Office acknowledged that there was still an ongoing investigation into Jayda’s death. However, they stated that the manner and cause of death were not yet available.

According to her obituary, her funeral arrangements were not announced, but it will be a private ceremony. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to the local National Alliance on Mental Illness.
