Two women in Alabama have reportedly been indicted for allegedly robbing him at gunpoint and shooting his girlfriend in the Talladega National Forest this summer, after killing a college student from Florida.

The U.S. Department of Justice has declared that a federal grand jury in Birmingham has issued a true bill indicting Yasmine Marie Adel Hider, a 20-year-old from Edmond, Oklahoma, and Krystal Diane Pinkins, a 36-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee. They have been charged with one count of murder, kidnapping, robbery, and the unlawful use of a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to federal charging documents, Simjee succumbed to a solitary bullet injury, and the purported incident occurred on August 14, 2022, resulting in the demise of Adam Simjee, who was 22 years old. Pinkins is accused of intentionally assisting and encouraging the act with premeditated intent, while Hider is accused of directly discharging the firearm that caused Simjee’s death.

According to the charging documents, the two defendants unlawfully capture, imprison, persuade, snatch, take, and transport two individuals — known as Simjee and his girlfriend, 20-year-old Mikayla Paulus — for their own “advantage and intention.”

Paulus discussed the distressing incident with AL.Com, although the specifics of what supposedly occurred in the national park are mostly omitted from the legal records.

Disguised as experiencing car difficulties, Hider and Pinkins signaled to them as Paulus allegedly mentioned that she and Simjee were trekking in Cheaha State Park in Clay County earlier in the day.

Paulus reportedly stated, “If she needed anything else, she couldn’t fix it herself. She tried to fix the car and watched some YouTube videos for car repair advice. So, I called my dad to ask for car repair advice.” She told you to drop your keys and phone and walk into the woods, then she pulled out a hidden gun.

Reportedly, Paulus allegedly stated that he carried a firearm in his waistband “throughout the entire duration” and even commented that the two women seemed suspicious, mentioning, “this is how individuals get robbed,” alluding to Simjee as a “proud advocate of the Second Amendment.”

According to reports, Paulus stated that Hider subsequently requested that the couple surrender their mobile phones, passcodes, and financial details.

Allegedly informed the media organization, Paulus stated, “According to him, when Hider momentarily let her guard down and briefly lowered her firearm, he swiftly drew out his weapon and commanded her to assume a prone position.” “They exchanged gunfire, but she began tampering with her gun, causing it to malfunction.”

Hider reportedly sustained three gunshot wounds, one of which shattered Simjee’s femur, ultimately proving to be fatal but survivable.

According to reports, Pinkins fled into the forest when the gunshots were heard. Allegedly, Paulus seized one of the mobile devices and dialed emergency services. She claimed to have administered chest compressions to Simjee while awaiting the arrival of law enforcement, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injury shortly afterward.

Reportedly, authorities found Pinkins a brief distance away at a “base camp” of tents. Allegedly, upon making contact, her 5-year-old son emerged from a wooded area brandishing a loaded shotgun. Nonetheless, once the child reunited with his mother, he relinquished the firearm and she was purportedly apprehended without any additional issues.

The DOJ states that the maximum punishment for murder, kidnapping, and illegal utilization of a firearm during a violent crime is a life sentence in prison, whereas the maximum punishment for robbery is a 15-year prison term.

In Clay County, where a judge allegedly imposed a temporary restriction on speech for all individuals implicated in the lawsuit, the pair also confronts charges at the state level.
