Angela Lansbury and the main character of Murder She Wrote, a television show centered around a crime novelist who has the unfortunate talent of stumbling upon lifeless corpses wherever she travels, were adored, viewed, or at least recognized by the majority of Americans (and possibly individuals from other nations) who were alive during the 1980s and 1990s.
…I digress, but someday I really want to see Betty White play opposite Ben Silverman, with me playing the character of Sunshine in a Boys-esque comedy.
What many viewers may not know is the actual location where the murder took place in Mendocino, California. Fans of the weekly hour-long episodes of the show, set in the fictional town of Cove Cabot, will be familiar with Jessica Fletcher/Angela Lansbury’s whereabouts.

Mendocino, unlike its fictional counterpart Cabot Cove, is a small coastal town that attracts tourists with its artistic flair and quiet demeanor, even though it has never lost a higher percentage of its population and still maintains an almost 900 residents.
In reality, approximately $2,000,000 was generated as a result of the heightened tourism. The popularity attracted a greater number of tourists, and frequently residents were employed as compensated additional cast members, enhancing the local economy. Although deserving of commendation independently, the production of Murder She Wrote did indeed enhance the economy.

With its recognizable locations around town, the hotel stood out as one of the most prominent in the series.
In the series known as “House Hill,” the fictional version of the hotel often hosts murder suspects, victims, and sometimes even murderers, which does not depict the real life version of that action.
I highly recommend Hill House in Mendocino as a delightful place to stay, where each room offers a distinct and enjoyable experience.
However, another option is Jessica Fletcher’s house from the series, now known as BLAIR HOUSE INN- 45110 Little Lake St., Mendocino, CA.
Those scenes were not shot in the house, so don’t expect the interior to look familiar. It may even allow pets! You can sleep there, so now you know that breakfast and bed in this Victorian from 1888 will make you even happier. Fans of Jessica Fletcher from MSW will know that this is the avid location of her house.
The town itself is a great place to explore the cliffs and coves of its shoreline or enjoy a relaxing meal at its many restaurants. You can also simply walk through the streets lined with residences and shops. I was enthralled with Mendocino as well, so I didn’t end up venturing there myself. Scenes of the harbor in Fort Bragg, about 10 miles north of Mendocino, were also captured.
Perhaps it would be worthwhile for avid film buffs to visit coastal locations and look up other movie shooting spots. Cujo, Year Next Time Same Eden, and several other films were shot in Mendocino in connection with She Wrote Murder (aside from).
Until we meet again, darlings…
