When searching for a ripe pomegranate, it is important to know what to look for. The most stunning and succulent arils are packed with an impeccable crimson peel, which is not mandatory. These pomegranates are ready to be savored immediately after purchase, as they have been harvested when fully ripe and are available in supermarkets.

Trim the upper portion by approximately half an inch from the apex.

Once you remove the top, four to six sections of the white membrane will be visible. Score the skin along each section.

Carefully separate the parts and immerse them in a container of water.

Carefully pry loose arils using your thumbs to scoop out everything that floats to the top and sink the seeds to the bottom.

I have never had much success with this method, but others swear by it! Another method to release the seeds is to tap the wooden spoon with the skin facing down and hold the bowl over each half, pushing out the center with a bit and cutting the pomegranate in half.
