He was drafted by the Dodgers in the 62nd round of the 1988 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, overall 1,390th pick. At the time, he was a student at Miami-Dade Community College. Vince Piazza, his father’s friend and a legendary Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda, asked him to favor his son in the draft. He played for the Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Florida Marlins, and Los Angeles Dodgers during his career. Piazza was born in Norristown, a neighborhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1968.
He retired in 2008. He currently holds the record for the highest number of home runs achieved by a catcher and was chosen as an All-Star twelve times.
