Kaitlin Armstrong has recently returned to the U.S. Where she is now awaiting trial for the first-degree murder of Moriah Wilson, a rising star in the world of gravel cycling. After days of apprehension about the emerging details surrounding Wilson’s death, she fled to Costa Rica.
The cycling world was in turmoil when the details of her death emerged, revealing Armstrong’s involvement in the shooting of Wilson, who was the girlfriend of gravel racer Colin Strickland. Armstrong had traveled to Austin, Texas, to take part in Gravel Locos, where she was expected to win the race. However, on May 11, Wilson was tragically shot and killed.
On May 14th, Armstrong traveled to LaGuardia Airport in New York, prior to selling her Jeep to a nearby CarMax dealership for $12,200 on May 13th. The Jeep was reportedly utilized to transport to the residence where Wilson was residing. Armstrong was permitted to depart as a result of a clerical mistake in a previous arrest warrant following her interview with the police on May 12th.
Given the literal nature of that statement, it escaped their notice that “losing her footprints in the sand” when the U.S. Marshals reported, which is when Armstrong was subsequently observed entering Newark Liberty International Airport on May 18.
She was finally apprehended on June 29 in Santa Teresa, a small beachside town in Costa Rica known for its best yoga teacher training programs, yoga classes, tourist-friendly restaurants, and quiet dirt road that leads through town and into the surfing lessons.
Armstrong managed to reach Costa Rica using a genuine passport that did not belong to her.

Surprisingly, she not only cut her hair shorter and dyed it a dark brown, but also acquired two black eyes and claimed to have injured her nose in a surfing accident. Reports regarding plastic surgery allegations are mixed, with some sources stating that she underwent cosmetic surgery under a different name and also provided a receipt of $6,350. Paulsen added that there was another allegation of surgery.
During the press conference, Deputy U.S. Marshal Filla added that Armstrong wouldn’t be the first American to move to a popular place to teach yoga or live relatively inexpensively as digital nomads. “We believe she was trying to learn new yoga instructing skills,” said Filla. It looks like she has retreated from her yoga practice being a hobby to making it a career.
The U.S. Marshals allege to have received numerous tips suggesting that Armstrong would be in Costa Rica.
During the press briefing, Filla mentioned, “Upon her arrival in Costa Rica, she didn’t extensively explore the surroundings.” “We were aware that she would be connected to a yoga studio in some way. When international authorities visited that particular yoga studio, they discovered a handwritten sign-in sheet bearing the identical pseudonym she used during her trip to Costa Rica… Once they established this consistent behavior, it significantly expanded their investigation, leading to the swift apprehension of Kaitlin Armstrong.”
The reporting of her capture has been slightly different among various sources, with variations in the precise sequence of events that led to it. According to the Daily Mail, when the local police in Santa Teresa conducted a background check on a name she provided during a stop in town, they discovered no evidence of her entering the country. However, she later confessed her true identity, which officials verified by accessing a database that indicated there was an urgent arrest warrant for her. Armstrong was subsequently apprehended.
As reported by CNN, Armstrong was transferred by Costa Rican authorities to Centro de Aprehensión Regional Central, a detention facility in Los Lagos, following her arrest. Subsequently, she was brought back to the United States and placed under the supervision of the U.S. Marshals during the holiday weekend. Video footage from George Bush International Airport in Houston, Texas, depicts her being accompanied by two officers and put into a van that was waiting for her.
According to Fox News, her bail has been established at 3.5 million dollars and would encompass GPS surveillance and an 8 p.M. Curfew. Presently, Armstrong will confront the accusation of first degree murder along with a federal charge of evading prosecution through unlawful flight.
