Ashley McBryde is bringing listeners on a nostalgic journey to her hometown with her heartfelt new song, “Illuminated in the Kitchen.”
Alexander, Jessi, and Connie Harrington are the writers who co-wrote the song “I Truck Your Drive” with Lee Brice. This song highlights the simple joys of returning home to family, and it was also co-written by McBryde.
Picture this: After spending years and months away, pining for the home where you grew up and seeing the delighted faces of your family, in a moment that is right in the world, you finally make the long-awaited trip back, stepping foot into the house that holds so much emotional significance for you. Perhaps you are thrust into an emotional whirlwind, caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, chasing your dream of a home.
In her song, she recalls and relives the wisdom of pearls that she heard from her mom and other women in her family over the years.
On stage, McBryde sings delicately, allowing her delivery to take center stage. The drums are brushed and the guitar chords are strummed gently, as she sings “That’s why I leave the light on in the kitchen / When you need someone to listen, I bless your heart / Love him hard, honey, even though he may be foolish / You’re going to find someone who is right for you / Because there is no one else as good as you / Until you love yourself better / Trust yourself, honey.”
This meaningful song, “Lyrically,” joins the ranks of enduring country tunes like the Judds’ “Love Can Build a Bridge,” Kenny Chesney’s “Don’t Blink,” Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying,” and Ann Lee Womack’s “I Hope You Dance.”
“We were certain that we had a place to go to write this song, which showed me how important it is to have simple comfort. We also remember the women who comforted and advised us, and we were able to look back on all of this while writing. It means that even if they are not coming home that night, I am thinking of them, and I will tell someone at ‘The Kitchen’ when there is a light on.”
She comments, “I distributed it to the significant females in my life, and they jogged my memory that they still keep the kitchen light illuminated for me, just like during my childhood. Being aware that someone, somewhere is considering you in that manner can help you overcome many challenges. And it’s an additional benefit that now we have the opportunity to express our affection or thoughts by saying ‘The light’s on for ya’.”
“Standards Night One” and “Divine Martha” are the singles that originated from the radio, which led to Will Never 2020’s and Lindeville’s untitled upcoming fifth studio album. The lead single from McBryde’s project, scheduled for 2022, is “Kitchen Light”.
“Never Desired to Be That Woman” was their collaboration for Performance Group Duo/Best Country Award at the Grammy, which they won. Pearce and Carly McBryde performed it and it has been recognized as the most recent achievement.
“Illuminate in the Kitchen” will have an effect on country radio on March 27th.
